[EN] He had only a purple suit, long black locks, a Rodhes keyboard, a microphone and a 40 thousand seat stadium waiting for him. On his back, the efforts of a 10 year career at the time and a fresh album that would become the best selling record in the history of rock music in Latin America.

In April of 1993, musician Fito Paez, from Rosario, Argentina, performed a sold out show at the Estadio Vélez Sarsfield, in Buenos Aires, to show his latest work of art then: the album “El Amor Después Del Amor”, released on June 1st, 1992, 32 years ago today.

The project is a letter from Paez and a recognition and, more importantly, an acceptance of all sorts of events that happened in his life. It regards passion, grief, lost and found tenderness, family, the rise, the fall and the rise again of the artist at only 30 years old. It’s a thank you note to his mentor Charly García, his partners in love like Fabiana Cantilo and in music like Luis Alberto “El Flaco” Spinetta, his idols like La Negra, Mercedes Sosa. It’s a grand reunion. So much that the album could be called “Fito and Friends”, as he managed to get them all and more in there.

It’s about soul and chaos at once. It’s everything and it’s from everywhere. It’s a blend of styles. “Tráfico por Katmandú” is heavy. It’s pure rock and roll, guitar riffs and a great bass feeling. “Pétalo de sal” is a beautiful, calm poetry. “Dos dias en la vida” sends everyone towards the dance floor while changing their names to Thelma and Louise. “Un vestido y un amor” is an oath to actress Cecilia Roth, with a powerful string section. “La rueda magica” is a toast to friendship and life. And the title track teaches you that nothing is ever the end. Find your identity, discover who you are and you’ll know that there can be love after love. Put it all together and Fito gives you the perfect mix of sensaciones hermosas. Just listen to it.

Besides being the best-selling long-playing album in the history of Popular Music within the country, it was also among the ten best-selling Argentine long-playing albums in the world, having sold more than 1 million copies and making the greatest Argentine rock albums list by Rolling Stone Magazine.

In 2023, Netflix produced a series called “El Amor Después Del Amor” about the life and career of Paez, with Iván Hochman as the rosarino, Micaela Riera as Fabi, Julian Kartun as Spinetta, Andy Chango as Charly and Daryna Butryk as Cecilia. It is a highly awarded show, having won the Premios Rolling Stone en Español for Series of the Year, with Iván and Micaela winning Breakout Actor and Actress at the Produ Awards and the Cóndor de Plata. At the moment, Hochman is also nominated for the Premios Aura 2024 for his performance. The ceremony is supposed to take place in Mexico, on July 3rd.

With the outstanding number of twenty-six albums later, singer, pianist and songwriter Fito Paez is one of the most acclaimed and interesting musicians of all time, with an influence that, with a lot of hard work, admiringly made its way out of Argentina and other parts of the world that speak Spanish or Portuguese. He’s a Grammy Award winner, a book writer, a producer, a filmmaker. Most of all, he’s a storyteller and an advocate for love.

“Love is the only thing that interests me (…) Love is the perfect word”, said Rodolfo Paez Ávalos, to El País in 2020. And he rightfully did so because, after all, “nadie puede y nadie debe vivir, vivir sin amor”.
